Chairmans first newsletter 2008

Hello once again and welcome to our first newsletter of 2008,the feedback I am getting from most members was very positive for 2007. Thank you for all you kind comments and to those members that helped out during the year, to all the staff, management and committee for making my job a lot easier and lets hope we can carry on improving for 2008. However I must voice my opinion of the Lack of support we are getting from some members is not very good, I put out a questionnaire asking you what you wanted, you responded in your masses and we gave you what you wanted, but again your support for some functions has not been very good, as I have said before if you do not use the club and support the functions you might wake up one day to find it is closed and you have nowhere to go, we are trying as a committee please you need to do your bit as members.

Can I congratulate Dale Trunkfield who ran the London Marathon on behalf the club he raised wings over £1000, he completed the course in a fantastic time of 3hrs 41min,He said his motivation this year was to beat my time, well he just done that well done mate. If you still have not sponsored Dale you still have two months to donate so please pass you donation to me (Gus) and I will pass it on to him, if you still owe can you pay me ASAP so that he can send it away.
Can I also congratulate the clubs football team on a very good season and for winning the league cup last Thursday 15th April, our season is coming to an end now, but we will be starting again in September so if your interested in playing let me know.

As you know the no smoking policy came into force on the July last year and it has been received well in the club by most, we lost our smoking tent unfortunately last week to the good old British weather it ended up on the bus stop on the main road, I have been informed a new construction is on its way, obviously all this takes time and money and the committee are getting involved, so if any one wants to volunteer their services for free that goes for manning the door also it would be much appreciated.

Malcolm informs me the membership went well last year, this year we hope to get more families involved, as that is proving very popular with all.

The Wings Dinner & Dance that was arranged and run on a 1940s / 50s theme to coincide with Battle of Britain week end on the 14th September 2007 was very poorly attended but those who went will all agree it was a fantastic night.

The entertainments are now starting and going down very well with all, However as I have said to a few that have asked we can not put entertainment in the bar if it is not attended and if we have a function booked in the hall, we have tried it before and the noise was just to much for some we are trying to involve all, so please support, and if you have any suggestions please let us know and we will see what we can do. The Bunker trips went very well last year and we intend running a few more of them in the near future, we have now visited twice and a good time was had by all, Also you asked for variations in entertainment, we now have things for all tastes and ages, with a lot more in the pipeline, you asked for it so please support your club, or we will not be able to put these on at the clubs expense and will cease or a charge will be made.

As you may have noticed the door is now manned by the committee when we have spare time, proof of membership will be required, if not in your possession you will be charged £1 as will all gusts which must be signed in by a member. Visiting darts, bowls, football, bunker trips etc: will be required to sign the visitors book this is a legal requirement under the Licensing Law, don't forget still looking for members to help with this.

We have received lots of complaints regarding the amount of swearing in the club, not only is it annoying a lot of members but putting a lot of people coming in, please refrain from using bad language as we are trying to encourage people into the bar not put them off your co-operation in this matter would be most appreciated.

Once again thank you for those that have supported us over the last year or so.

Gus Payne
Chairman.
