HISTORY

Hillingdon Blind Bowlers was formed in May 1996 by Val and Ron Brooks of Hayes in association with the Social Services Department of The London Borough Of Hillingdon. The idea was to give a form of recreation to visually impaired people in Hillingdon Borough and its immediate environs and to enable them to experience a social life which they otherwise would not have had.

Initially there were few members, all being by referral from Social Services but the club quickly went from strength to strength and at the end of that year held a Christmas Party for 30 Visually Impaired Members and their guests.

In 1997 the US Navy base at Ruislip donated four sets of bowls to the newly formed club which were used in its first ever match against Chesham Pioneers. Although the club lost 23-30 on that occasion the event became an annual one and the club has won 7 times out of the ten times entered. That year also saw the first of another annual event for the club - a pub lunch, in keeping with the ideals of enabling members to experience a social event.
